Latina

Latina

One of my favorite books is “Las Venas Abiertas de América Latina” (The Opens Veins of Latin America), written by Eduardo Galeano. I like this book because it shows the hard reality of our continent since many years ago. In “Las Venas Abiertas de América Latina” the author tries to teach us about the point of view and quality of life of the poor people, and the unfair situation that we have to face day after day.

This book is set since Colony times until the seventies, a period of military dictatorships in South America. In each chapter, the book shows us the injustice in this zone of world, the slavery and the hard work made in the mineral mines, the millionaire business between the powerful companies, and the illness and poverty of the people here lives.

In this book, Galeano tells the story of spanish, british and american colonialism. It also explains how this happened with the help of conquistadores, (the Cross and the Sword) along with the more recent and most corrupt mother-land sellers, diplomacy, dictators and transnational’s agencies. A must read for burocrats and hypocrits in international finance business.

I think it´s important to read about topics like this, with major reason today, when is our duty to take care about the world we live on, we need to know about other´s realities and forms of life.
